01:04 rangi wizzyrea: 7805 wont be needed for 3.6.x the new permissions only came in in 3.8.x
01:05 wizzyrea right - that's what I gathered but since I was looking at them all, I figured I'd just close them with the note. Maybe that's not the right way to go about it - I do hate filling up people's inboxes.
01:06 (but for that one at least, I did know that the permissions weren't in 3.6)
01:08 rangi ah yeah for those ones i just leave them
01:08 you could note, not needed for 3.6.x if you wanted
01:08 but i usually just leave it
01:08 * rangi is lazy
01:09 rangi mtj++
01:09 (its gonna generate the mail when you resolve it anyway so a little note doesnt hurt :))
01:11 mtj rangi, yeah ultimately the 'sign-off' discussion seemed like a no-brainer to me
01:12 … a little extra effort, for a bunch more security
01:12 rangi *nod*
01:21 hmmm
01:22 that really doesnt seem right, maybe those issues are to do with ubuntu
01:22 but i had none of those issues on debian
01:22 * rangi is talking about the email to the list
01:24 jcamins rangi: I had a problems just now with Debian.
01:25 Not so extreme.
01:26 apt seems confused about my architecture.
01:27 Of course, I don't actually know what architecture I'm on.
01:27 rangi heh
01:28 the theme issue is a known bug .. the rest .. i dont know about
01:30 jcamins How do I find out what architecture I'm on?
01:31 wizzyrea uname -a
01:31 might tell you
01:31 jcamins Thanks.
01:31 It says amd64.
01:39 wizzyrea++
01:39 wizzyrea wha?
01:40 Space_Librarian you solved jcamins problem
01:40 wizzyrea oh :)
01:40 jcamins No, actually, for closing bugs.
01:40 Space_Librarian and she does that too.
01:41 * Space_Librarian gives wizzyrea chocolate
01:41 wizzyrea oo
01:41 thanks
01:41 rangi she has that in her drawer already
01:41 and likes to tease us by snapping it loudly!
01:41 :)
01:41 Space_Librarian in case of emergency?
01:42 wizzyrea every day is an emergency.
01:42 rangi yeah whenever i ask her to do something stupid
01:42 wizzyrea !
01:42 rangi snap goes the chocolate
01:42 wizzyrea no no
01:42 rangi i know your tricks
01:42 :)
01:42 wizzyrea HA
01:42 * wizzyrea has no tricks
01:42 wizzyrea no really, it's true, I can't hide anything.
01:43 rangi hehe
01:43 Space_Librarian You need an invisibility cloak.
01:43 wizzyrea true!
01:47 jcamins Hey, does anyone have any really large datasets they want to share with me?
01:48 rangi youve got the ones from openlibrary?
01:48 jcamins Hmmm...
01:48 no.
01:48 Good idea.
01:48 rangi http://archive.org/details/mar[…]ersity_of_toronto
01:49 5.2gig worth of records there
01:49 jcamins Oh, of course.
01:49 THanks!
01:49 *Thanks
01:50 rangi http://archive.org/details/tal[…]rary_contribution
01:50 5.5 million from talis too
01:50 http://archive.org/search.php?[…]ection&sort=-week
01:51 go for gold :)
01:51 jcamins Hehe.
01:51 I think probably I'll go with a slightly smaller dataset.
01:51 rangi :)
01:52 http://archive.org/details/unc_catalog_marc
01:52 thats a good one
01:52 jcamins I like UMich's.
01:52 rangi cos you can grab them at 2000 records at a time
01:52 ah yep thats good too
01:53 mtj i've had a pet-project for stuffing as many MARC records as i could find into a koha, and making it a z39.kc.org server
01:54 rangi how many did you get in?
01:54 mtj it would be a really useful thing!
01:54 rangi, i havent even started yet :/
01:54 rangi ahh
01:55 mtj ive been thinking about it for about 3-ish months, now
01:55 bag I've had the same idea too
01:55 rangi im happy to point z3950.koha-community.org at it when its done :)
01:56 mtj yeah, but….. all those records out there…. they are not easy to pull via z39, yet :/
01:56 rangi assuming they are appropriately licensed records
01:56 and sru.koha-community.org
01:56 we may as well offer them via sru/sw too
01:56 bag up I'd be down to help anyway possible
01:57 mtj ^^ rangi, yep that too :)
01:58 jcamins Ooh, Tuebingen!
01:58 I forgot about them.
01:58 mtj the big killer-feature *missing* from koha, is a way for new libraries to find MARC records for their books, i think...
01:58 jenkins_koha Starting build #69 for job Koha_3.6.x (previous build: SUCCESS)
01:59 mtj so, the fix for that could be - we (kc.org) build a huge z39/sru server, and provides that service?
01:59 rangi jcamins: your rewrite will help provide a better z3950 experience too, or is that pretty decent already? (talking about fetch from a z3950 server with koha)
02:01 jcamins It will help, yes.
02:01 bag I think kyle found a spot that z3950 causes some slowness - I think he may have commented on a bug but I forget
02:02 rangi cool
02:02 we can always stick yaz-proxy out front
02:03 mtj atm , open-library has a zigabtye of bib records… but there is no easy way to get them from koha
02:03 rangi thats what library of congress did
02:04 mtj rangi, aah, i didnt know that
02:05 rangi http://www.indexdata.com/yazproxy
02:06 mtj the other way for Koha to get openlibrary records, is to teach Koha to import OL's  JSON, YAML or RDF/XML bib data
02:06 http://openlibrary.org/developers/api
02:07 anyhoo, a little off-topic...
02:07 rangi mtj: id love to go that route
02:07 jcamins I'd love to see that.
02:07 rangi talk to eythian at hashigo zake
02:07 he started do some work towards that i think
02:07 you know what
02:08 lets go for google summer of code next year
02:08 eythian No, I was mostly looking at cover uploading
02:08 jcamins Definitely a good idea.
02:08 eythian but I ran out of time to complete it
02:08 rangi somethign like that, would be a perfect project
02:08 ahh right
02:08 jcamins I tried to convince wizzyrea to submit a proposal, but she wasn't sold.
02:08 rangi biblios.net/org
02:08 came from summer of code
02:09 one good thing that came out of the one year i was at liblime
02:09 that and the move to git
02:10 the rest im happy to forget :)
02:11 jcamins 190k authorities imported.
02:13 mtj i'm sure everyone agrees - teaching koha to import OL's bib format, is better than us building our own z39 box
02:15 ^^ i think i talked myself out of starting the z39 thing, after i realised that
02:18 yeah, so that could be Koha's new killer-feature… searching and importing bibs from open-library :)
02:19 libsysguy joined #koha

02:26 eythian I might have a go at making a patch for that issue, see how that helps. I do note that the status of "blocker" doesn't actually seem to function as intended though
02:26 (later that is, I have more urgent stuff to do right now)
02:27 jcamins I thought I already patched it.
02:28 Not sure where, though.
02:28 eythian if you did, it's not on bug 9052
02:28 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org[…]w_bug.cgi?id=9052 blocker, P5 - low, ---, robin, NEW , YUI assets installed in the wrong place by packages
02:29 rangi yep thats a new bug
02:29 jcamins No, I thought I patched it a while ago.
02:29 rangi well new report
02:29 jcamins And I can't find it.
02:31 rangi actually yeah
02:31 i think it is fixed
02:31 eythian in 3.10.x?
02:32 rangi hmm nope still a bug
02:33 pastebot "rangi" at 127.0.0.1 pasted "reset-fonts-grids" (6 lines) at http://paste.koha-community.org/285
02:34 rangi first 2 lines are the files in git
02:34 the second 2 are where 3.10.0 installed them
02:34 jcamins Yeah, definitely a bug.
02:34 rangi sorry the next 3
02:35 this one being the problem /usr/share/koha/opac/htdocs/opac-tmpl/prog/en/css/reset-fonts-grids.css
02:35 actually that may have been left over from 3.8.x
02:35 the real bug is there isnt one at
02:36 /usr/share/koha/opac/htdocs/opac-tmpl/lib/yui/reset-fonts-grids.css
02:36 same issue with skin.css
02:37 * rangi hope that helps
02:39 jcamins Importing 700k records takes a long time.
02:39 rangi yep
02:43 eythian why is "address" not-null and not-default? That seems like a strange requirement.
02:43 borrowers.address that is
02:44 * eythian notes that there's some hidden logic somewhere that seems to give it '' if it would otherwise be not defined.
02:44 eythian Silly band-aids.
02:44 jcamins 183k
02:45 bag I'm getting soo excited for the watching the premeir of the hobbit - live :)  let's see a parade!
02:45 mtj you going?
02:45 eythian http://www.stuff.co.nz/enterta[…]ent/film/8009390/ <-- bag
02:46 mtj i only just found out it was on, this morning :/
02:46 bag SOOO cool
02:46 eythian I had a wander down Courtney Place earlier this afternoon. Packed with people.
02:46 mtj literally lives under a rock, you see.
02:47 Space_Librarian A couple of people at work are walking the carpet.
02:47 mtj i was planning to head to HZ for a beer later this arvo… but not anymoar!
02:47 eythian it's just outside the blocked off zone, it might not be so bad. malty will be hellish though.
02:48 jcamins 1/3 of the way there.
02:48 bag oh man you should go!!!  for us that can't!!!
02:48 oh man oh man oh man oh man
02:48 heh

02:49 oh, missed
02:50 bag joined #koha
02:51 mtj still gonna go for a beer/wander, but will prolly go to LBQ instead
02:51 eythian good day for it
02:51 Space_Librarian you should try the Sprig and Fern, but it is a little more out of the way.

02:54 heh
02:54 oh no you didn't Space_Librarian
02:54 Space_Librarian yep.
02:54 Also have had conversations with Stephen Fry and Billy Connelly.
02:54 bag that's pretty cool - I studied a lot of shakespeare in uni
02:55 Space_Librarian I think he was more relieved that I was talking Shakespeare and not Gandalf.
02:55 wizzyrea ^.^
02:55 mtj Space, not too criticial, i hope?
02:55 Space_Librarian So *so cool* though.
02:56 No, we discussed the finer points of the villians. (I loved his Richard III).
02:56 mtj … and you complimented him on his nice red shirt ;)
02:57 Space_Librarian hahahaha. That was pre-red shirt, but I would do it now. :P
02:57 wizzyrea translations + packages - I forget how one does this
02:57 how do you update them after an upgrade?
02:57 Space_Librarian mind you, people say red shirt = I think Star Trek.
02:58 * jcamins thinks Star Trek when he hears "red shirt," too.
02:58 Space_Librarian we have been indoctrinated.
02:58 jcamins wizzyrea: I build the packages with the translations I want.
02:59 I think the way eythian does it is to install the translations manually.
02:59 wizzyrea well that is a step next
02:59 (good to know, but doesn't help this particular moment :))

03:05 mtj i, generally speaking, know lots little chubby hairy people...
03:05 kathryn uh speaking of that, my hobbit name... :(
03:05 Esmerelda Chubb
03:05 !!!
03:05 rangi lol
03:06 Space_Librarian at least you're not a grubb!
03:06 rangi we should totally do hobbit names for zoo doo
03:06 wizzyrea Ruby Trample of Woody End
03:06 Space_Librarian where is that name generator?
03:06 wizzyrea http://www.chriswetherell.com/hobbit/index.php

03:08 * jcamins just reread Fellowship of the Ring.
03:08 jcamins And Two Towers.
03:08 wizzyrea of course :)
03:09 * Space_Librarian loves LotR and Silmarillion more than the Hobbit.
03:09 jcamins I loaned them to a friend two years ago and only just got them back two weeks ago.
03:09 (but I got them back!)
03:09 Space_Librarian hooray!
03:09 wizzyrea because they kept getting overdue notices from your koha?
03:09 rangi heh
03:10 kathryn mtj: I didn't get a home like everyone else, just plain ol Esmerelda Chubb
03:10 jcamins wizzyrea: lol
03:10 That would've been a good idea, but no.
03:11 Is there a standard program I can use that will wait until another process has finished then execute a particular program?
03:11 wizzyrea a pipe? or &&
03:12 rangi Esmerelda Chubb lives down the pub
03:12 jcamins wizzyrea: assume that I'm half-way through a very long process.
03:12 wizzyrea oh.
03:13 rangi hmm
03:13 wizzyrea you mean like importing 5G of records
03:13 jcamins I'd like to go to sleep, but it's going to take another 40 minutes for the import to finish, and then I'd like to import the last file and reindex.
03:13 wizzyrea :P
03:13 rangi not really
03:13 jcamins In this case only 500MB.
03:13 You'd think there would be- it's easy enough to script.
03:15 rangi you could just at it
03:15 jcamins Hm. True.

11:21 vfernandes hi guys
11:23 gaetan_B hello
11:23 wahanui privet, gaetan_B
11:23 drojf hi vfernandes
11:23 and hi gaetan_B
11:24 gaetan_B so i got analytics working, but there's still a question : is there a way to get the list of analytics from the host record in the opac like we have it in the admin ?
11:24 drojf i fail to find any mention of koha on the website of the company requesting to be listed as koha support provider
11:27 vfernandes in one of my clients I've implement a record cataloguing validation workflow with some code modifications... the cataloguer uses the MARC frameworks to catalogue the record (suppress = 1 and they can't change it), than the catalogue "bosses" uses a special framework (only some patrons have access to i) to validate the record catalogue and set the suppress = 0
11:28 this could be a nice feature to add to Koha?
11:29 gaetan_B vfernandes: i have met some people asking for this feature actually :)
11:29 so it does sound like a nice idea
11:30 vfernandes in my client the implementation is directly in the code, but I can turn it more useful with system preferences
11:30 * gaetan_B is off to lunch
11:33 magnuse vfernandes: yeah, system preferences to make it optional is usually a good idea :-)
11:33 dpavlin ~
11:38 magnuse dpavlin: you're going home? ;-)
11:40 drojf lol
11:41 dpavlin magnuse: no, not yet unfortunatly, I just a bit sleepy so my finger slipped from esc to ~ :-)
11:42 magnuse :-)
11:43 vfernandes the system preferences needs to have 3 options... one to turn on/turn off the cataloguing validation, one to especify the code of MARC framework and the last to specify the usernames with access to the validation framework (empty for all)
11:45 with the validation on all frameworks (expect validation framework) needs to have the suppress hidden because it will be filled automatically with value 0
11:45 *with 1
11:46 what you think about this magnuse?
11:49 magnuse instead of specifying a user in a syspref, maybe create a permission for it?
11:50 vfernandes can be... the problem is that with validation off there is "non" working permission
11:58 if a record has no suppress (empty 942$n in UNIMARC) what happens? it is visible in OPAC?

17:37 and it was slow slow slow
17:41 jcamins Yeah... unfortunately I didn't use enough '-v's and I'm not even getting any progress information.
17:44 When it finishes I am copying the Zebra indexes and trying to avoid ever reindexing again.

17:52 So clearly it doesn't scale linearly.

17:54 cait hi chris_n
17:55 tcohen jcamins, for rebuild_zebra, for the export step (which takes way too much time without that switch)
17:55 jcamins tcohen: yeah, I already had everything exported.
17:55 Though that's a good point... could be that's what all the time was taken up with.
17:56 In fact, it almost surely was.
17:56 oleonard In debugging localization of the datepicker I notice people aren't translating the two-letter day abbreviations. Are these not common in other languages or are the strings too ambiguous in the translation process?
17:56 tcohen that, and IO are the bottlenecks
17:57 oleonard cait? magnuse?
17:57 drojf oleonard: they are common in german
17:57 not sure why they are not translated
17:58 oleonard I could see how having, for instance, "Fr" come up in the translation process could be confusing.
17:58 drojf probably that, yes

18:01 I think I caught the others in translation, but not everyone checks where the string comes from
18:01 so they are probably confusing for some translators

20:49 garyb Doing the upgrade from 3.8 --> 3.10 on 64-bit Debian 6.0.6 using koha-common package. I keep getting the message that the package is being "kept back". It appears libdigest-jhash-perl has a dependency of perlapi-5.14.2 but the standard version of perl in squeeze is 5.10.1-17. Is there a workaround?
20:49 jcamins It hates me, clearly.

21:03 drojf garyb: have you tried dist-upgrade?
21:04 jcamins drojf: perl 5.14 is from Ubuntu.
21:05 garyb I have. That was one of the first things I found online. While the "Packages" file for 32-bit lists 5.10.1, the 64-bit one lists 5.14.2
21:05 drojf hrm
21:05 jcamins garyb: that's because the 64bit one was built on my system, wich has Perl 5.14.2, apparently.
21:05 Unfortunately, I don't know how to change that.
21:06 garyb Is this something that might be addressed in 3.10.1?
21:08 rangi garyb: you are running 32 bit now?
21:08 jcamins garyb: it depends if the package manager gets access to a 64-bit system.
21:08 garyb No, 64-bit
21:08 rangi right
21:08 jcamins I don't know how to change the version of Perl that my packages ask for.
21:08 rangi heres a trick you can do
21:08 jcamins: you edit the control file
21:09 jcamins rangi: I didn't generate the control file, though.
21:09 rangi: it seems to be setting the version in spite of the fact that I'm using eythian's configuration.
21:09 rangi jcamins: what i do is this
21:09 and garyb you could try this
21:10 dh-make-perl make --cpan Digest::Jhash
21:11 cd Digest-JHash-0.07
21:11 jcamins Maybe if I tried pdebuild that'd do it.
21:12 rangi dch -i
21:12 edit the changelog
21:12 mine now says
21:13 libdigest-jhash-perl (0.07-1ubuntu1) quantal; urgency=low
21:13 debuild -us -uc
21:14 that will build a package that will work fine on my system
21:14 so garyb could now
21:14 sudo dpkg -i ../libdigest-jhash-perl_0.07-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb
21:14 (thats only fixing it for his situation)
21:14 but yes for general you would do all the above
21:15 but first you would do
21:15 sudo pbuilder --login
21:15 and do it in there :)
21:15 at least i think that would work
21:15 garyb Thanks rangi, but I'm also concerned that others running 64-bit squeeze are seeing the same issue
21:16 rangi yep they will be, it'll be something fixed before 3.10.1
21:16 jcamins rangi: ooooh, cever.

22:29 cait jcamins: to do the patch justice - first sentence in the very first message on the bug :)
22:29 in orderreceive when you receive an order with 'AcqCreateItem ' on 'receiving', you must first fill the 'Item' block and validating by clicking 'add' before clicking the 'save' button.
22:30 maybe it would be good to remind people to put that into their commit messages too :)
22:30 jcamins Yes, I will do that.
22:34 eythian cait: that wouldn't work
22:34 because if it's a bug reported by an end-user, you can't always expect it to be in that form.
22:34 (I was going to say "coherent", but I guess it's just Cynical Thursday today)
22:35 jcamins eythian: sorry, if the developer can't copy and paste, I'm not pushing the patch anyway.
22:35 eythian jcamins: but what happens if the developer didn't create the bug request? They have no control over the first message on the bug.
22:36 jcamins But I don't look at the first message in the bug.
22:36 I couldn't care less what's there.
22:36 I want the commit message to tell me what I need to know.
22:36 Otherwise, I have to do the developer's job *and* my job.
22:37 eythian that's why I was replying to: <cait> jcamins: to do the patch justice - first sentence in the very first message on the bug :)
22:37 wizzyrea I wouldn't mind the description
22:37 jcamins Oh, cait's saying the explanation is there.
22:37 eythian ohh
22:37 I misread then
22:37 jcamins I think.
22:37 * jcamins isn't looking.
22:37 * eythian goes back to whatever it is he's supposed to be doing
22:38 cait lol
22:38 jcamins I'm writing an e-mail saying "if you don't include the information I need on the commit message, you're begging for your patches to be left dangling."
22:38 cait I step away for a short moment...
22:38 * wizzyrea hopes you actually say what info you want >.>
22:38 cait eythian, jcamins: what I meant was remind the patch writers to put all needed informaton in the commit message - so I guess we all agree actually :)
22:38 jcamins wizzyrea: yes.
22:39 wizzyrea I consider test plans to be not-optional
22:39 :P
22:39 coherent test plans.
22:51 cait :)

23:29 wizzyrea: was that clear enough?
23:29 About what I want, I mean. :)
23:31 And by "want" I of course mean "require."
23:32 Bet no one realized I was such an irascible martinet. :P
23:32 * eythian plans commit messages in sonnet form
23:33 jcamins eythian: commit messages of literary merit receive bonus points.
23:54 huginn New commit(s) kohagit: Merge branch 'bug_9030' into 3.12-master <http://git.koha-community.org/[…]10bad4e3573a53f22> / Bug 9030: Increment version number <http://git.koha-community.org/[…]8a5cb8289bc48a8f8> / Bug 9030: Add constraint on aqorders_items.ordernumber <http://git.koha-community.org/[…]f;h=550ac77bfd019
23:58 jenkins_koha Starting build #959 for job Koha_master (previous build: SUCCESS)
23:58 jcamins @later tell melia If you run `git config --global user.email "melia AT bywatersolutions.com"` (without the backticks, and putting in an @ character) on the system you're using for testing, your actual e-mail address will appear on signoffs instead of the @test.bywatersolutions.com address. I think rangi and I both have mapping files so that those signoffs are collapsed into your regular address, but you might want to change it anyway.
23:58 huginn jcamins: The operation succeeded.
23:59 jcamins Of course, I only noticed that after merging.
