00:52 | BobB | hi wizzyrea |
00:54 | @later tell wizzyrea :at koha-community.org/documentation/ the link to the 16.05 manual is returning 404
00:54 | huginn | BobB: The operation succeeded. |

00:59 | wizzyrea | BobB: what is the correct URL? That stuff is managed by bernardo |
00:59 | and actually near as I can tell the manual for 16 isn't there at all
01:00 | nengard would have been the one who updated that page.
01:00 | http://manual.koha-community.org/16.05/en/ BobB
01:01 | bob_ | ok, so I go to https://koha-community.org/documentation/ |
01:01 | wizzyrea | yeah, that http://translate.koha-communit[…]/en/html-desktop/ |
01:02 | doesn't exist | |
01:02 | bob_ | and click the link to the 16.05 manual |
01:02 | wizzyrea | and translate is run by bernardo |
01:02 | bob_ | and get a 404 |
01:02 | but the url you give resolves for me
01:02 | wizzyrea | yep, it's not on translate |
01:02 | it's on manual | |
01:02 | that's the mirror link
01:02 | something is funky with the translate copy
01:02 | bob_ | ah ok |
01:03 | wizzyrea | just trying to get you to the info you needed :) |
01:03 | i'm not sure exactly what needs to happen on translate
01:04 | bob_ | i'll email bernardo if you like? |
01:06 | wizzyrea | that's probably best, I kinda don't want to touch it until I know what the URL actually *is* |
01:06 | cuz if he just puts it there it'll come right by itself :)
01:07 | or, if we need to come up with a different workflow or idk what
01:10 | bob_ | done |

05:49 | The1TheyCallSam | Hi, guys -- trying out the Koha IRC for the first time! |
05:52 | I'm a fairly new Koha user (currently on 3.14, but planning to upgrade to latest version soon), and while I've been better familiarizing myself with resources out there, I'm still not bridging the gaps in my knowledge on one particular issue...
05:53 | cait | hi :) |
05:54 | The1TheyCallSam | The issue I'm having is with patron logins, both for our OPAC in general, and for our Self-Checkout procedure for an off-site collection (for which there is currently a link on our Library homepage): library.marianas.edu |
05:55 | cait | in 3.14? |
05:56 | just asking cause there aredifferences
05:56 | waht's the issue?
05:58 | hm your link is a more modern version - but strangely I can't see the exact version in the source
05:58 | The1TheyCallSam | Our students do not know how to login to the OPAC (and because I'm still fairly new in my job, neither do I); I am able to login with my admin. Koha (back-end) login info, as are my other staff members, but the students' login info still vexes me...no one at our Library has really ever addressed this since we jumped on the Koha wagon, and my predecessor didn't communicate to me how usernames and passwords are generated. |
05:59 | cait | hm |
05:59 | if you are not using some external thing like ldap or cas, the way you log into koha is either:
05:59 | - username + password
05:59 | - cardnumber + password
06:00 | passwords are stored encrypted, so there is no way for you to tell what it has been set to
06:00 | you can use the patron import to set passwords - but once the password is stored, there is no way to findout again what it was
06:01 | oh and normal uers don't need any permissions, only staff users do
06:01 | The1TheyCallSam | This makes sense...I am thinking it has something to do with importing our currently enrolled students into the system via "batch delete" / "batch patron modification" (which we do at the beginning of every semester), but I am unsure... |
06:03 | cait | take a look at the import patrons tool |
06:03 | it works with csv files
06:03 | The1TheyCallSam | I need to be able to demonstrate to students at the off-site facility can successfully checkout materials to themselves... |
06:03 | Ok, looking now -- one sec.
06:03 | cait | you can create a user or set a users passwords from the patron account |
06:04 | so I think a demonstration should not be a problem
06:04 | bob_ | hi cait |
06:05 | cait | hi bob_ |
06:05 | bob_ | The1TheyCallSam, you need a staff user for the self check module |
06:05 | to log in to it effectively
06:05 | then each student uses their own credentials to borrow
06:06 | its covered in the manual
06:06 | The1TheyCallSam | AH... |
06:06 | cait | ahyeah that's true |
06:06 | The1TheyCallSam | Thank you, bob_ |
06:06 | cait | and there is a specific permission it will need |
06:06 | in newer versions
06:06 | The1TheyCallSam | That may be what was stumping me... |
06:07 | cait | self_checkout Perform self checkout at the OPAC. It should be used for the patron matching the AutoSelfCheckID |
06:09 | that's the permission
06:13 | The1TheyCallSam joined #koha
06:16 | irma joined #koha
06:18 | The1TheyCallSam | Ok, cait -- I think I've found it: it looks like the circulation preference this refers to (when I perform a search for "self checkout" in global system preferences) is: AutoSelfCheckAllowed AutoSelfCheckID AutoSelfCheckPass |
06:19 | cait | that's if you want the self check user to automatically log in |
06:22 | The1TheyCallSam | Hmmm...ultimately I want them to user THEIR username and password, so that our ILS keeps track of exactly who is borrowing those materials... |
06:23 | ashimema joined #koha
06:27 | The1TheyCallSam | My problem is still that I'm not sure what the username and password IS. Last week, I tried many combinations with a couple of students, trying every possibility of what it could be / should be...I even tried editing one student's OPAC login, and had him create a new password, but that didn't seem to work, either... |
06:33 | I think maybe I just wigged out because of the initial requirement of a STAFF login for this self-checkout thing: thus, even the students' legitimate username / password wasn't being recognized...
06:33 | I'll keep tinkering. Thanks for your help, all!
