14:01 | equinoxe | Hi all - hopefully a quick question... are there any logs associated with Marc imports that might tell me why items are failing to import? |
14:06 | the biblio records are being created ok but nothing in biblioitems
14:38 | jcamins | equinoxe: There are no logs that I'm aware of. As an aside, biblioitems stores bib-level data, not item-level data. |
14:39 | equinoxe | Thanks - sorry I meant items.. |
14:39 | I think I have found the cause - many thanks

21:55 | jcamins | wizzyrea: I have learned something valuable. I have learned that if someone tells me they are allergic to "sulfites," I should ask for clarification about that, because they might not realize that geeks like me will look up what compounds are in every single type of food and then assume everything with any sulfite is dangerous. |
21:56 | wizzyrea | lol. |
21:56 | jcamins | I thought I should share this, so that you know to ask for clarification next time someone tells you they're allergic to something like "sulfites." |
21:56 | wizzyrea | So I take it that meant that wine was out, but cream of tartare was ok? |
21:56 | jcamins | She eats potatoes and strawberries, both of which have sulfites. |
21:57 | Cream of tartar probably would've have been okay, but basically any fruit other than apples or bananas would've been fine.
21:57 | wizzyrea | that is a good tip |
21:57 | jcamins | *wouldn't |
21:57 | Because it's not sulfites *per se* it's the industrial formulations that are in common use that she's allergic to.
21:57 | wizzyrea | I express my deepest empathy to people who have that level allergy. |
21:58 | jcamins | Though blueberries turned out to be a good choice. |
21:59 | * wizzyrea | just read a report from 1997 that says "software library systems are not yet common or mature" |
21:59 | wizzyrea | how far we've come. |
21:59 | jcamins | lol |
22:05 | eythian | I'm pretty sure they weren't uncommon in '97... |
22:06 | wizzyrea | i know my city and school libraries both had them, even back into the 80's, and that's kansas. |
22:07 | jcamins | I remember using the card catalog. |
22:07 | wizzyrea | well the city library probably didn't have one until the early 90's |
22:07 | jcamins | But I was probably about 3. |
22:07 | FWIW | |
22:07 | wizzyrea | but the school did because I remember the magic laser wand. |
22:08 | jcamins | Were lucky students selected to wand books each library session? I feel like I've heard people reminiscing about how they got to be library helper in grade school. |
22:17 | eythian | I did that in ... intermediate school (I think everyone did it on a bit of a rotation). I think it was manual though. I remember stamps and cards in the back. |
22:29 | wizzyrea | you could be a library aide and get to do circ :) |
22:37 | eythian | It wasn't a big school |
22:37 | wizzyrea | neither was mine. |
22:37 | maybe 200 students grates k-8?
22:39 | eythian | This was bigger than that, 200 for form 1 and 2. |
22:39 | jcamins | Pfft. You want small? Try three students grades 4-12! :P |
22:39 | eythian | WEll, the same, but over fewer years :) |
22:39 | Yeah, I had a friend who went to one of those, then they closed and joined the school I was at.
22:40 | jcamins | Heh. My brothers went to hs. |
