07:23 mtompset Hmmm... is there a patch or system preference for the sort order on dates for reports?
07:25 kf ?
07:25 mtompset Hmmm... that's a bizarre case, dateformat = dd/mm/yyyy sorts wrong, but yyyy/mm/dd sorts right.
07:26 "wrong" in the want it to sort the same as yyyy/mm/dd
07:26 rangi any qa people in the house?
07:28 kf mtompset: not so bizarre I think
07:28 it's probably missing the magic to make it sort right for different date formats
07:28 you coudl report a bug for that
07:29 although I am not sure where you are seeing this?
07:29 mtompset Saved Reports
07:29 We have a whole bunch of them.
07:29 Each has a date.
07:29 kf ah yes
07:29 mtompset In the list of them.
07:29 kf I woudl say file a bug
07:30 not sure which table sorter is used for that page at the moment
07:30 mtompset If you sort on the date... it sorts "wrong" for non-yyyy-mm-dd layout.
07:30 kf yes
07:30 because the other date formats can't be sorted alphabetically
07:30 you need a different logic

10:06 kf jcamins: hope you made notes :)
10:06 guess I will need one server running plack in the future
10:07 jcamins drojf: because I decided I didn't like dpavlin's suggested configuration and am doing a creative new configuration.
10:07 Unfortunately, it's getting tetchy about listening only on a socket.
10:07 drojf i added some info for minimal plack configuration to the wiki some days ago if that helps anyone
10:07 jcamins I saw.
10:07 I didn't realize that was you.

10:08 jcamins That's what I started with.

10:08 jcamins Then things started getting wacky.
10:08 mtompset ITYM?
10:08 wahanui it has been said that ITYM is I Think You Mean
10:09 mtompset Same diff. :P But probably. :)
10:09 Good thing you are telling wahanui your slef-isms. :)
10:09 jcamins Woohoo!
10:09 Starman will listen on a socket.
10:10 drojf cool. starman is on my todo-pile
10:10 jcamins (without also listening on a port)
10:10 Now, nginx.
10:10 * mtompset can feel the techy-success through IRC.
10:10 jcamins drojf: don't suppose you have a minimal nginx configuration?
10:10 mtompset Are you doing a little success dance too, jcamins? ;)
10:10 jcamins mtompset: no, but I'm bouncing on my exercise ball.
10:11 drojf jcamins: not yet ;)
10:11 jcamins I think I'd like those debug panes, too...
10:12 drojf the debug stuff is fancy but requires a lot of perl module building
10:16 jcamins I decided to use Ubuntu, even though I don't like it so much, because more of the modules are available.
10:16 Oh, that was a dumb way to do things.
10:16 Well, my Plack config worked until I decided just now to redo it.
10:19 drojf you mean, my part worked? :P
10:19 jcamins It did, but I was celebrating when my modifications worked.
10:19 I just modified it again.
10:20 Huh. And my changes worked, so far.
10:37 Hm.
10:37 Looks like no one pointed out to me that the dropdowns couldn't be translated, either.
10:37 kf lunch time
10:37 jcamins Not that I see how it would be possible.
10:37 kf_lunch oh
10:37 which drop downs?
10:38 and I will ignore that until after lunch
10:39 jcamins Authorities.
10:47 Cool, nginx+plack is fully functional.
10:48 Well, sans nifty debug panels.
10:48 And automatically starting on boot.
10:49 And data.
10:50 drojf huh?
10:51 jcamins I have my server running nginx and Plack, with the following problems: no nifty debug panels, Plack doesn't start on boot, and there's no data.
10:53 magnuse are they just running or are they running koha?
10:53 jcamins lol
10:53 Running Koha.
10:53 magnuse yay!
10:55 jcamins Well, hm.
10:55 dh-make-perl does not do what I was expecting it to under Ubuntu.
10:55 magnuse make coffee?
10:55 jcamins Make a Debian package.
10:56 drojf what does it do instead?
10:56 jcamins Generate a local Perl environment.
10:57 I can work with that, though, I think.
10:58 That first time you hit Plack, it's quite slow, I have observed.
10:59 magnuse hehe: "Using this program is no excuse for not reading the debian developer documentation"
10:59 jcamins I think perhaps my daemon startup script needs to request something when it starts.

11:03 And less intrusive.
11:03 drojf heh
11:05 jcamins Oh-ho.
11:05 drojf maybe i skipped the cool stuff that makes it fast in my minimal guide

11:16 jcamins 404 Not Found... why?
11:18 kf jcamins: that's because the name is in the sql files I think - for the drop downs
11:19 jcamins kf: yeah, I guess that's not very fixable, is it?
11:20 kf hm
11:20 not really
11:20 well not if you want it multilingual
11:20 but you could give your frameworks translated names and create translates sql files
11:21 mtompset ewwww!
11:21 kf mtompset: it's like things are.
11:21 and it's common to have a set of sample data for various languages in KOha - this is only a side effect of that
11:27 mtompset Having sample data for various languages - good. What that sounds like - bad.
11:29 jcamins Guess I'll have to do without the debug panels.
11:32 jwagner joined #koha

11:34 * jcamins does not like doing without the debug panels.
11:34 kf mtompset: you can add frameworks yourself - they are user generated content
11:35 mtompset: there is no way to have mulitple language support for database values right now
11:35 the only thing that can be fixed is the "default2 for the standard framework
11:38 magnuse when 3.10 is out we should do a "close pushed bugs" day, i think...
11:38 kf yep
11:38 I agree
11:38 clean start for 3.12
11:38 jcamins: what do you think?
11:39 jcamins +1
11:40 magnuse hm, will that mess things up for the rmaint?
11:40 close "pushed to stable" first, perhaps?
11:40 kf magnuse: btw why are you not there to be a bug wrangler, hm? :)
11:41 because apparently you care for the bugs :)
11:42 magnuse yeah, but i will have so little time for them in the next half year, if things go to plan
11:43 so i'd rather do what i can, without promising to do anything in particular
11:44 wow, 557 bugs are pushed to master, 466 pushed to stable
11:44 kf not too bad
11:46 magnuse but that's ~1000 bugs that should be closed, or am i thinking about it wrong?
11:46 jcamins No, you are right.

12:33 mtompset a profiler? How are you using it?
12:33 jcamins With Plack.
12:34 The question is whether there's any way I can prevent it running all the time, 'cause it's slow.
12:34 mtompset Ah, to generate comparative numbers with plack on and off?
12:34 jcamins No.
12:34 I don't care how much faster Plack is than Apache.
12:35 I often profile my code.
12:37 mtompset How about an ugly solution of a script wrapper?
12:38 jcamins That wouldn't help.
12:38 I'm using Plack.
12:38 That's how I do it with Apache.

14:42 oleonard Yeah, both of those are scary options

15:03 kf yum.
15:04 oleonard Does the number of messages contained in a notice "digest" depend on how often your message queue is processed?
15:05 kf hmm
15:05 I think not
15:05 wizzyrea It *thought* it happened once every 24 hours regardless
15:05 kf because the messages are generated by a separate job
15:05 advance-notices
15:05 and overdue_notices
15:05 wizzyrea or whenever the crons run.
15:06 kf so it would dependon how often you run those, but would always get all for the specific date I think
15:06 at least for overdues, due and predue
15:06 does that make sense?
15:07 oleonard I'm thinking about the discussion around the patron-self-registration feature, where it sounded like we would need to reduce the frequency of process_message_queue.pl to minutes in order to send out confirmation emails
15:07 kf ah
15:07 I think it wouldn't effect the notces I mentioned
15:08 what else ... hold messages are 1 each
15:08 the circ slips I think do their own timing thing
15:14 reiveune1 bye
15:14 reiveune1 left #koha
15:15 wizzyrea yea I was wondering why we don't just skip the message queue and time them independently, on demand.
15:15 cronning messages only makes sense when there's a chance you might add more to the message
15:15 at a later time
15:18 oleonard Yeah if you're choosing an interval for the advance_notices cron job why not send straight away on that interval
15:19 wizzyrea i'm not sure why you wouldn't just send it when the user submits, like every other website out ther.e
15:19 oleonard For the OPAC registrations certainly
15:21 wizzyrea right that's what I'm referring to
15:22 oleonard So wait, how are item checkout notices generated? Not via cron job?
15:26 Checkout notices get sent out with every run of process_message_queue.pl, so running that every minute
15:26 ...will mean no digest-like functionality

18:21 jcamins rambutan: isn't that server-side JS?
18:25 rambutan yes. We have an app we're working on using mostly php for server side, and one of the group wants to redo it in nodejs
18:28 oleonard Just for the sake of using nodejs?
18:28 cait ^^ I think that's a good question
18:28 jcamins rambutan: I've heard good things about nodejs, and it worked well when I had a Javascript application that I wanted to run on the server instead of the browser (Zotero), but I wouldn't rewrite anything to use it.
18:29 libsysguy I tried to write a page scraper in it once
18:29 and had mixed results
18:29 rambutan I asked him that exact question (via email), haven't gotten a reply.
18:29 libsysguy i ended up using perl instead
18:29 rambutan Well, I think we're going to have to redo some of the php anyway.
18:32 libsysguy what is the app for?
18:32 and would it be better served to write it in php or node

18:51 we've found that nodejs actually much easier, and significantly faster in many cases.  Plus I really enjoy working in it.  It also allows you to develop a full application.  Instead of executing at request.  So it can sit there and listen at alternate ports, and perform many operations.
18:52 drojf jcamins: are you using starman now?
18:52 jcamins drojf: I am, yes.
18:53 * oleonard can't believe 1024x768 is now considered "tablet size"
18:53 cait forget jcamins
18:53 wahanui cait: I forgot jcamins
18:53 drojf was that readily available or did you have to build/cpan it? i remember it was not available in an approrpiate version when i tried it on the raspberry pi first
18:54 cait jcamins is running for release manager for 3.12 and a his work on authorities is amazing!
18:54 jcamins?
18:54 wahanui jcamins is probably running for release manager for 3.12 and a his work on authorities is amazing!
18:54 jcamins drojf: I decided to use Ubuntu Precise so that I wouldn't have to CPAN so much.
18:55 drojf ah right you said so. and i just checked on the pi and see a 3.001-1
19:00 that reminds me… i wanted to ask dpavlin_ what is in his prod.psgi. how does it work with opac and staff client in starman? do you just throw both files together?
19:00 jcamins drojf: it doesn't.
19:00 drojf ah. great ;)
19:00 jcamins Remember how I spent three hours this morning messing with my Plack config?
19:00 That's why.
19:00 drojf ouch :(
19:00 i see
19:00 * jcamins will share, once he has the last bugs worked out.
19:01 jcamins Like the error documents.
19:10 edveal left #koha
19:15 drojf considering that my opac tries to load forever with starman, i will wait for your findings ;) and i sent a mail to dpavlin_ asking for his config file
19:18 jcamins drojf: if you have any idea how to get the error documents working, pointers are much appreciated. :)
19:20 Also any hints how to get useful information in the logs.
19:26 drojf maybe i do
19:26 seen this? http://dev.man-online.org/man3[…]e::ErrorDocument/
19:26 wahanui I haven't seen 'this', drojf
19:26 jcamins Yes, but I haven't figured out how to use it yet.
19:27 * jcamins figures that probably has the solution... somewhere.
19:27 drojf let's me try
19:33 browser "file not found" instead of the other "not found" is at least different :)
19:37 ok i see, that does not really work for me either. enabling the sub request brings back the old error and does not really do a GET at all
19:37 jcamins Yeah, that's what I found.
19:41 drojf: puzzling, isn't it?
19:42 drojf indeed
19:44 have you tried package Plack::Middleware::ErrorDocument::App ?
19:44 * jcamins has not.
19:45 jcamins I don't think I saw that.
19:45 * cait loves watching drojf and jcamins
19:45 cheers them on :)

19:45 drojf https://github.com/jamadam/Pla[…]orDocument/App.pm
19:45 jcamins Deprecated, though?
19:48 Ohhh... I bet it's because the error pages return errors.
19:49 rangi hmm still no qa on bug 3652?

19:49 rangi and morning
19:50 cait :(
19:59 drojf ha
19:59 jcamins Got it?
20:00 drojf i see my local error file at least
20:01 rangi what we should do
20:01 talljoy left #koha
20:01 rangi is make some way of rendering those error pages as static
20:01 then serve them like that
20:20 drojf jcamins: i think you are right about the error pages returning errors :)
20:20 when i have the working local 404.html and open /cgi-bin/koha/errors/404.pl i get to my local file instead
20:21 jcamins Right, so a change to the various errorhandlers will fix it.
20:33 The problem with static errorhandlers is that we show different things depending on whether you're logged in or not.

22:22 jcamins This errordocument issue with Plack seems like something that many, many people would have encountered.
22:33 rambutan eythian: I should have said "new library bookmobile" in my email, vs just "new library"
22:34 eythian ah right
22:35 there are trademark issues in NZ too, though I don't think they cover the logo. I don't think PTFS uses the real logo anyway.
22:35 rangi well there aren't yet, the TM still isnt registered

23:35 jcamins Does anyone know if dpavlin's system is publicly available?
23:38 Yes.
23:38 And error documents work perfectly.
23:43 And it's served by Apache.
23:43 Odd.
23:44 Who else announced their intention of putting Plack in production?
23:50 eythian well, are you using starman?
23:50 or whatever it is?
23:50 jcamins eythian: I am indeed.
23:50 eythian I probably wouldn't use that in production, but instead mod_psgi or something. I haven't given it a lot of thought however.
23:51 * jcamins is not going to be changing his configuration at this point. :P
23:53 jcamins Well, this is a development server, so I will do without error documents.
23:53 What I can't figure out is why no one testing Plack has complained about this before.
23:55 I feel like it would be hard to miss.
23:56 eythian is it a starman limitation?
23:56 jcamins No, Plack.
23:56 eythian because people might be using other servers instead.
23:56 jcamins I asked on the PSGI IRC channel, and was told that PSGI did not allow it.

23:58 jcamins Looks like that'd be required for Plack.
23:59 eythian hmm, annoying. Though you could do it at the apache level.
