17:18 brendan morning
17:39 cait morning brendan
17:40 brendan HEYA CIAT
17:40 heya cait (sorry about the caps) ;)
17:40 cait np :)
17:42 brendan: will I meet you at Kohacon?
17:42 brendan I won't be making it - my wife is pregnant - so I'm going to use vacation time for the arrival of the little girl :)
17:44 cait oooh, ok, that's ar really good excuse :)
18:02 jcamins_a Hello all.
18:02 Does anyone happen to know if Koha already has the ability to use local cover images?
18:02 cait hi jcamins
18:02 no, I think it's not possible at the moment
18:02 brendan like a common bookplate?
18:03 or you want to load your own per item book jacket
18:03 jcamins_a The latter.
18:03 brendan not at the moment
18:03 jcamins_a Although a common bookplate is another good idea. My list for "good ideas" just keeps getting longer.
18:03 cait you could store the covers and show them via xslt
18:03 brendan I've seen people do a replace for "no image found" - using css
18:04 jcamins_a cait: ooh, I could, couldn't I?
18:04 brendan http://catalog.marlboro.edu
18:04 cait we have a project where we want to show a preview to the digitization
18:04 i think you could :) but there are not features to upload the cover or something like that at the moment
18:04 jcamins_a brendan: that was done with CSS?
18:04 brendan yes
18:04 jcamins_a CSS is amazing. :)
18:04 cait looks nice
18:04 brendan let see if I can find you the css
18:05 cait I like the color
18:05 what is a book plate?
18:06 brendan span.no-image
18:06 {
18:06 background-image: url(*******/opac-tmpl/prog/images/Library_bookplate_tiny.GIF);
18:06 width: 55px;
18:06 height: 75px;
18:06 }
18:09 jcamins_a brendan: Thanks!
18:09 cait: a bookplate is the "ex libris" that libraries put in their books.
18:09 cait ah
18:09 but why show it in the catalog?
18:11 jcamins_a Because it's more attractive than "No image found."
18:11 And to remind people what library catalog they're looking at.
18:12 cait ok
18:12 :)
18:19 jcamins_a I guess the right way to set up local jacket images would be to add a "jacket image manager"-type page, and a syspref that optionally told the XSLT to pull a cover image.
18:21 Or to add something in the XSLT that can parse 856s with format type jpeg, or whatever.
18:21 cait hm good idea
18:25 brendan yeah another great addition would be for the images to be pulled from multiple sites - so if amazon cover found - pull that. no amazon cover, check google, no cover at google, check locally
18:26 jcamins_a Yeah, that would be my ideal.
18:26 Although we'd need the order to be user-configurable, since I would want it to pull locally first.
18:28 jcamins_a is now known as jcamins
18:28 brendan yeah - and a good resource for pulling ISSN jackets (if possible - instead of just using the isbn api's)
18:29 jcamins Does anyone provide jackets by ISSN?
18:29 I guess probably syndetics does.
18:40 brendan @wunder 93117
18:40 munin brendan: The current temperature in Northwest Goleta, Goleta, California is 20.7C (11:46 AM PDT on August 21, 2010). Conditions: Clear. Humidity: 68%. Dew Point: 15.0C. Pressure: 29.89 in 1012.1 hPa (Rising).
