08:48 | aw-bib[m] | hello :) |
08:49 | working on the notices in our system I wonder if there is some way (a cli is fine with me) to test that my adopted templates work correctly. any hints?
09:31 | magnuse | aw-bib[m]: some, but not all, templates have a built in test functionality, where you enter for example a biblionumber and a borrowernumber and can see the generated message based on that |
09:33 | aw-bib[m] | yes I noticed that on some. I was wondering if there is a general trick. some typos I made just caused an internal error e.g. hard to spot. one work around was to copy the mail text to a slip and print this. but as I understand the templating I don't have all tables available everywhere. |

12:03 | any unimarc k-t-d users? If I run reset_all_unimarc and then rebuild zebra I get empty searches
12:09 | oleonard | PedroAmorim[m]: That has been my experience too. I don't know the solution. |
12:09 | ashimema | aw-bib not an easy solution I know of, but the TT should do a compile check immediately after edits |
12:35 | aw-bib[m] | ashimema: you mean from the web I should have seen an error upon save? |
12:35 | (btw: I assume if I create new templates they should use TT not `<<...>>` right?)
12:39 | khall joined #koha
13:12 | ashimema | We're trying to move away from <<>> syntax yeah.. we've supported TT for a long time now and it's much more powerful |
13:13 | But we're likely to support <<>> for a long while yet .. it's very hard to drop anything in Koha world
13:14 | As for the TT validation, we run through a compile on check on save and it'll warn you somewhere if the template is invalid
13:14 | I.e. missing braces and things
13:15 | what it won't do is try to use the objects... We don't pass and table data in for the test so it can't catch method name, field name typos
13:15 | I've wanted to do a lot of work in this area for a long time.. but alas it's hard to garner interest and or sponsorships
13:16 | So I've not managed to make the improvements I'd like

13:28 | tcohen | let's deprecate UNIMARC |
13:29 | aw-bib[m] | understood. now it becomes clear why I didn't get an error untill I called the template. it was syntactically correct, but I "missnamed" one of the objects in my typo. that is the point where I was looking for a check. something simple like: this is the template, this is test data, "just" render it and display, so I can see those. also noted that all stuff I do on our end will be TT. |
13:29 | so as there is no easy way to check the templates "offline" otherwise, I'll resort to sending me test emails for all those I touch. that's a valid option, of course.
13:34 | ashimema | there's a suspref to send all mail to one address from memeory |
13:35 | that might help | |
13:35 | the challenge is setting enough data to get some of the notices to work
13:35 | I'd love to have preview available for all.. but is not as trivial as it sounds
13:36 | it would be simpler if we considered having the same starting point for more of them
13:37 | we make things "easy" by including loads of different tables and variables out of the box.. if instead we said "all notices start with the user your sending to".. then reworked the notices to use the patron methods to pull in all the related data.. it would be simpler
13:37 | loads of our notices could be resolved that way
13:46 | aw-bib[m] | ok, I'll check the systempref. |
13:46 | I see you point on adding data. this is probably more problematic for a _general_ test case. but as I have to add the notices one by one + (usually) the time consuming process it getting all librarians to agree on them. I could basically test them one by one. (still hoping I don't need every about 100 and I can keep this nls stuff at bay. ;)
13:46 | many thanks for your help. also the tt from yesterday worked perfectly. I just replaced the `borrowers.title` by `borrowers.sex` where I see all necessary distinctions.
