09:52 andreashm happy new year cait
09:53 cait bit late... but better late than never :)
09:53 magnuse hiya cait tcohen andreashm
09:53 cait the job shadowing is a cool idea btw
09:53 magnuse yup!
09:53 swedish_koha_network++
09:55 andreashm cait: =)
09:56 it is a good idea. very popular too, many who take the chance to go see how others work with Koha
09:57 cait maybe something for the newsletter? :)
09:57 ashimema ?
09:57 did I miss something
09:57 andreashm has anyone solved the silent printing issue? previously you could use the firefox extension jsPrintSetup, and some JS to send the printouts directly to the printer (without dialog), but that doesnt work anymore.
09:58 cait ashimema: it was all swedish :)
09:58 ashimema btw.. I'm just discussing user group meeting with the boss man here.. seeing if I can do it on company time vs taking leave.. being a bit cheeky.. should reply soon
09:58 sorry for the delay
09:58 andreashm cait: yeah, probably a good idea. we should send more of what we do to the newsletter... just so little time.
09:58 cait andreashm: there is a bug with a longer discussion on it- my understanding is that it's an issueof the browsers
09:58 andreashm ashimema: cool, thanks for the update!
09:59 ashimema it's a security 'feature' I'm afraid andreashm
09:59 andreashm cait: yeah, it is.
09:59 ashimema: yeah, I know.
09:59 ashimema it does make sense that a browser can't print without a dialogue.. but it is annoying
09:59 cait i am not sure if it makes so much sense in the era of having everything web based
09:59 a way to allow it for certain things would be nice
10:00 andreashm Was just wondering how others to it. I'm sure a lot of other large libraries don't fancy clicking a print dialog everytime a recipt is printed?
10:00 ashimema we face the same fun question ocassionally but haven't really found a good solution either..
10:00 we're also struggling to find a way of opening up a cash till drawer
10:00 qz tray seemed to be the only thing available
10:01 andreashm ashimema: is that working?
10:02 I was going to investigate qz tray, since I saw it mentioned on the silent_print bug
10:02 bug 19637
10:02 huginn Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org[…]_bug.cgi?id=19637 enhancement, P5 - low, ---, koha-bugs, NEW , jsPrintSetup not supported in Firefox Quantum
10:03 ashimema it does.. but it's a pain as you have to install it on all computers in the library
10:03 and install certificates to ensure it's secure I think
10:03 andreashm I've heard of another Swedish library working on a solution for creating PDFs of the print and sending to the printer server-side. But don't think they are finished yet, so am looking at other options.
10:05 ashimema: well, the jsprintsetup add-on needed to be installed on all computers as well. so maybe might work as a quick (ha!) fix.
10:05 ashimema hehe
10:05 tcohen we could do it server side, using Google Cloud Print
10:05 ashimema that would work.. I think
10:05 good idea tcoehn
10:05 tcohen  even
10:06 we needed qa tray for the till drawer opening as much as anything else
10:09 andreashm tcohen: google cloud print?
10:09 * andreashm goes to google it (ha! again)
10:12 cait ew google
10:12 that#s personal data you are sending to a web service?
10:13 not sure how that works... but thinking about the info we print on slips and the like not sure i want to send it through the internet
10:15 andreashm yeah, might be an issue
10:16 ashimema it's a hard problem to solve :(
10:19 cait googling for privacy and google print service doesn't make me want to write the GDPR docs for that ;)
10:22 * cait sends cookies
10:38 tcohen it is just an idea
10:38 it might serve some people
10:38 and not others
10:38 printer vendors have their own tools too, for internet printing
10:38 andreashm ideas are good!
10:38 tcohen HP, Epson, etc
10:39 * ashimema goes for tea
10:40 cait some ILs send email to printers
10:41 but you often need special software i think to do the print queues
10:41 and there can be delays
10:42 ashimema indeed
10:43 POS (Point Of Sale) is just notoriously challenging to do from a browser.. but not impossible)

20:11 caroline Hi native english speakers! :) Would you say that "Opened" is a good alternative to "Open" in the sense of "the state of being open"?
20:12 Since Open is both a state and a verb, it causes problems in the french translation
20:14 rangi whats the context caroline, can you use it in a sentence?
20:15 caroline rangi: right now I'm on serials-search.pl
20:15 It's not really in a sentence, it a tab
20:15 There's an "Open" tab and a "Closed" tab
20:15 rangi opened and open arent always the same, depending on the tense
20:15 something can have been opened, but not currently be open
20:15 if that makes sense?
20:16 caroline Ok so maybe for that one we could change it to something like "ongoing"?
20:16 rangi that would work better
20:16 in progress
20:16 ongoing
20:16 either of those

20:57 andreashm white x-mas here, but since the weather has been bad. had a severe storm, that caused som major problems. we had a power outage for three days. so many trees knocked over it took the power companies a long time to repair. so parts a bit further north still has no power.

22:45 has anyone created a registration page where a patron can 'register' and then staff can approve/disapprove it?
22:46 caroline There is the auto registration function in Koha.
22:46 I think you have to activate it in sys prefs
22:46 PatronSelfRegistration
22:47 If you go in Administration > Global system preferences > OPAC there is a whole section
22:47 is that what you were looking for?
22:48 enoch_pi i believe so. basically it will allow a patron to register/create their account? I am not near my Koha so i can not look at it right now
22:48 caroline Yes they will be able to create a temporary account, and then a notification will appear on the staff main screen to confirm
22:49 enoch_pi gotcha! that is what I am looking for! I will check into that when i get the chance
