00:02 dcook hey bgallagher
00:02 wahanui bgallagher is not sure yet cait I have not got train tickets
00:02 dcook Are there two of you now?
00:02 bgallagher Yes
00:02 Updates on my computer
00:02 Using backup
00:03 dcook Hmm, sounds less stressful than having a clone
00:03 Potentially
00:03 bgallagher Clone would be nice
00:04 dcook I don't think I ever saw the end of Multiplicity, but I can't imagine it turned out well
00:04 bgallagher Ha

01:07 dcook Hmm, is there a CLI script to auto-generate authorities from existing subject tags?
01:09 link_bibs_to_authorities.pl looks like it's only useful if the authorities already exist...
01:10 jcamins dcook: that is correct.
01:10 wajasu has been trying to use it to generate authorities.
01:10 It has not been working well.
01:10 dcook :/
01:10 jcamins Unsurprisingly, since it was not designed to do anything of the sort.
01:11 dcook Makes sense
01:11 link_bibs_to_authorities.pl sounds like it does exactly what it needs to do
01:11 Well...maybe
01:12 You have your authorities and then you want to link your bibs to them...makes sense. I suppose you still might end up with bibs that don't have authorized headings, but...c'est la vie
01:12 Although I suppose it might be nice to be able to autogenerate whatever ones don't match..
01:12 * dcook babbles some more
01:13 dcook I suppose I was just wondering if there was already a programmatic way of generating authorities from existing tags, instead of having people turning on "AutoCreateAuthorities" and then opening and saving their bib records
01:15 jcamins No.
01:15 eythian dcook: there isn't, but it's not hard to do by extracting them and using csvtomarc
01:15 I've done it before, I think it took <` hour to do.
01:15 jcamins It would be useful, but no one has paid for it.
01:15 eythian <1 hour
01:16 dcook jcamins: Good to know :)
01:16 eythian: I'm not sure I u nderstand...
01:17 eythian dcook: you extract all the subject headings in your data into a one-column csv file, and then run csvtomarc to create an authorities MARC file that you import.
01:17 csvtomarc is an external script to help with migrations.
01:17 dcook Hmmm, that would do the trick
01:17 Mmm
01:17 jcamins The trick is the subfield markers.
01:17 Not a difficult trick, you understand.
01:17 Just something that you want to make sure to take into account.
01:18 eythian yeah, it won't do them very well, as it is now.
01:19 dcook Hmm, good to know. This is a pretty simple case, so it shouldn't be too big of a deal, I imagine
01:19 But good to be aware :)
01:20 Whereabouts does one find the csvtomarc.pl file?
01:20 jcamins koha migration toolbox?
01:20 wahanui rumour has it koha migration toolbox is https://www.gitorious.org/koha-toolbox/
01:20 dcook I think I see a few references to Catalyst and jcamins's repos
01:20 jcamins ^^
01:20 eythian I really really need to update the version in there
01:20 but it'll do for your purposes.
01:20 dcook hehe
01:21 jcamins Actually, use mine.
01:21 http://git.cpbibliography.com/[…]box.git;a=summary
01:22 It has a number of authority-related scripts.
01:22 And fixes a bug in the auth header generation.
01:22 *leader
01:23 dcook Cool beans. Thanks, jcamins
01:23 So, csvtomarc.pl to transform the csv into marc authorities
01:23 jcamins Right.
01:23 dcook Then bulkauthimport.pl?
01:24 Then link_bibs_to_authorities.pl
01:25 jcamins bulkmarcimport.
01:25 eythian don't forget to reindex zebra pretty much between each step
01:25 jcamins bulkauthimport should not be used ever.
01:26 eythian it probably should be deleted
01:26 jcamins It should be.
01:30 eythian bug 9035 needs signoff
01:30 huginn 04Bug http://bugs.koha-community.org[…]w_bug.cgi?id=9035 trivial, P5 - low, ---, gmcharlt, Needs Signoff , remove deprecated 'bulkauthimport.pl' file
01:35 dcook No quams about me signing off on it?
01:35 jcamins None.
01:40 bag almost a week left till first freeze :)
01:40 eythian but it's 22° outside, that's not near freezing!
01:41 dcook Today was rather warm..
01:41 bag I need to find someone to sign off on (edifact bug) since libsysguy has added the unit tests
01:41 is that correct jcamins?  Or could another bywater person sign off on it - since it's originally from ptfs-europe?
01:42 my thought is my statement is correct - we shouldn't have another bywater person test/sign-off :)
01:43 eythian dcook: signoff process is that you apply the patch, check that it does what it claims, and then add the signed-off patch to the bug.
01:44 That way you get counted in the stats :)
01:44 jcamins bag: you are correct, you need to find someone else to sign off.
01:44 dcook Yep, just attaching it now, eythian
01:44 jcamins libsysguy did some rather extensive work on the EDIFACT code.
01:44 bag thought soo…  I will not bug khall tomorrow then :)
01:44 dcook Usually I would change bugzilla second, but for some reason I did it first today :S
01:45 bag well that was my opinion too jared…  didn't seem right :)
01:45 eythian dcook: ah, sweet as then
01:46 dcook: it's also an option to add comments to the commit message below your signoff
01:46 but by no means compulsory
01:46 oh, you're way ahead of me
01:46 dcook *shrug*
01:46 eythian pretend I'm not saying anything
01:46 dcook The confirmation of what to do is appreciated nonetheless
01:47 The absence of scolding doesn't necessarily fill one with confidence either, so confirmation...always good :D
01:47 eythian heh
01:48 yay, we have two new confirmed Koha clients to migrate early this year.
01:48 wizzyrea \o/
01:48 dcook :D
01:49 wizzyrea also we have a couple of libraries wanting to put into the pot for cover image fallback - so if you know anybody who wants to contribute to that, send them our way
01:50 eythian @later tell magnuse <wizzyrea> also we have a couple of libraries wanting to put into the pot for cover image fallback - so if you know anybody who wants to contribute to that, send them our way
01:50 huginn eythian: The operation succeeded.
01:50 eythian I have a feeling he's been interested in it
01:50 dcook Cover image fallback?
01:51 eythian so if google doesn't have the cover, try amazon, and so on
01:51 dcook Mmm
01:51 Rather than the current...mishmash
01:51 'twould be nice
01:57 * wizzyrea gets the popcorn for these tweets
01:57 wajasu i deleted all my auths. ran a tweaked script to read all biblios headings and gen auths into memory hash, creating when no matching heading found and updating the $9s. at the end, i saved the auths to the db, and did modbiblio with the $9s
02:06 dcook Did the trick in the end, wajasu?
02:07 eythian: this script is ginormous!
02:07 eythian it is something of a monster, yes
02:07 I swear, it started as something small and simple...
02:08 wizzyrea he says that every time.
02:08 dcook hehe
02:12 Does it read the first row of the csv as a header?
02:14 eythian yeah
02:16 dcook Sweet. All right, let's give this script a go..
02:20 Hmm, stopped before I could begin
02:20 Don't have Business::ISSN installed
02:20 eythian you'll need to install that then :)
02:20 dcook Blarg :p
02:21 I don't have root on this system. I really need to set up a Debian instance at home...
02:21 eythian ah
02:21 that'd be annoying
02:22 it's not too hard to do a local cpan install
02:23 dcook Hmm
02:23 As a regular user?
02:26 jcamins Sure.
02:26 eythian yeah
02:27 dcook Looks like we have a different local script for generating authorities from the bibs, but I'm still intrigued...
02:27 eythian you can tell cpan where to put stuff, and then modify PERL5LIB to point there.
02:27 dcook That's what I was thinking off the top of my head
02:27 But I wasn't sure if it was more complicated than that
02:27 eythian it's not really
02:27 dcook so "cpanm Business::ISSN"?
02:32 Mmm, I think I got it now
02:32 druthb joined #koha
02:32 eythian dcook: well, you will have to configure span and tell it where to put things first
02:32 dcook http://search.cpan.org/~apeiro[…]/lib/local/lib.pm
02:32 eythian but I think it asks all those questions the first time you run it
02:32 dcook :)
02:33 druthb o/
02:34 dcook Of course I don't have local::lib...
02:35 hi druthb :)
02:35 druthb Hi, dcook! :)
02:35 jcamins dcook: I just use regular cpan.
02:35 eythian yeah, you don't have to do anything fancy
02:35 just make sure you tell cpan what's going on
02:35 dcook I've never used cpan before :p
02:35 And only seen it used maybe twice
02:36 eythian it's very straight forward
02:37 just type 'cpan'
02:37 if that doesn't work, try perl -MCPAN -e shell
02:49 dcook Hmm neither seems too happy about me not being the root user
02:49 Due to the location of the working directory
02:49 It does prompt for user configuration though...
02:49 "Please make sure the directory exists and is writable." seems ominous though
02:50 Hmm lunch time in any case
02:50 eythian well point it to somewhere that exists and is writable by you
02:50 dcook Thanks again for the help jcamins and eythian :)
02:50 But how does one do that?
02:51 Through that user configuration?
02:51 eythian you said it's prompting for the directory?
02:51 dcook Nope
02:51 eythian did it ask you a brazillion questions the first time?
02:52 dcook It seems like it's on the way to doing so
02:52 pastebot "dcook" at 127.0.0.1 pasted "CPAN config" (8 lines) at http://paste.koha-community.org/435
02:52 eythian oh
02:52 say yes
02:53 dcook All right
02:53 Would you like me to configure as much as possible automatically?
02:53 "Would you like me to configure as much as possible automatically? " *
02:53 eythian umm. try it see what happens
02:53 it's always possible to start over
02:56 dcook All right, I think it's all configured..
02:56 eythian cool
02:57 dcook Or at least it's stopped asking me questions :p
02:57 eythian that's usually a sign :)
02:57 dcook Hmm..
02:58 That didn't work so well me thinks..
02:59 eythian why?
02:59 dcook Cannot create directory /root/.cpan/prefs
02:59 eythian why is it trying to put stuff in /root in the first place?
02:59 dcook No idea
03:00 eythian perhaps rm -r ~/.cpan and start over, but answer all the questions yourself
03:00 dcook I don't see a mention of it in the config either..
03:01 wizzyrea what's your cwd?
03:01 presumably ~/
03:02 dcook yep
03:02 ugh safe removals..
03:06 aha!
03:06 wizzyrea \o/
03:10 dcook Configuration done better this time and Business::ISSN downloaded
03:12 Hmm, missed a config variable somewhere...
03:13 It wants to put it into usr/lib rather than my local dir
03:18 Oh well...lunch time
04:01 wajasu dcook: my hacked scripts works. the library came alive.  15000 biblios genereated 16000 auths.  i turned on UseTtracingForAuths. got more subject links.

05:37 dcook Admittedly, I was looking for missing brackets and the like. Just skimmed the numbers the first time
05:39 Quick question.
05:40 Just like any other env variable, I can separate multiple PERL5LIB paths using a colon, yes?
