07:02 kivilahtio is there any kind of integration available to billing systems? You can define custom messages to be sent to patrons when they have items overdue. And you can define a custom message as a bill/fine for a lost item, but how do you track have the patrons paid their sent fines? For ex if I lost a book and after 4 months the library would send me a fine, charging me the price of a new book, billing costs and overdue fees. How does Koha track such
07:02 transactions? Or does it not?

10:03 kivilahtio Odd, I am unable to browse previously created baskets. I have two vendors, Booxy and BTJ. When browsing a vendor in vendor search, there are no order baskets visible, even if I have several baskets created and I even managed to get one visible on the basket groups page.
10:04 shouldnt the baskets be visible on the vendor search page, if I have created a basket, but havent closed it or emailed ot or whatever. The basket running id number keeps increasing, but I see no baskets.
10:04 kf kivilahtio: have you created the baskets, or another user?
10:04 are all items from the basket received?
10:04 kivilahtio no
10:04 no items received
10:05 kf hm
10:05 you should see them then in theory
10:05 oh
10:05 which version?
10:05 wahanui which version are you upgraing from ?
10:05 kf current master?
10:05 wahanui current master is probably broken.
10:05 kf wahanui: forget current master
10:05 wahanui kf: I forgot current master
10:05 kf !
10:05 not broken.
10:05 kivilahtio: are you running a very new master?
10:05 branch?
10:05 wahanui branch is a little more complicated
10:05 kf wahanui forget branch
10:05 wahanui kf: I forgot branch
10:05 kivilahtio I am running 3.4
10:06 i am logged in as a superuser
10:06 I am logged in to a library
10:06 kf ok
10:06 ah
10:06 superuser or superlibrarian?
10:06 you should never use the root user that is created during install
10:06 only to create yourself a real user
10:06 kivilahtio well the default user you create during installation, I guess it is the superuser
10:07 but should it make any difference?
10:08 I couldnt find a bug in the bugzilla
10:08 considering this acquisitions problem
10:08 kf yes
10:08 don't use that user
10:08 it's as simple as that :)
10:09 it's not made for use in koha, it has no real borrowernumber
10:09 and no patron data
10:09 it will cause problems
10:09 kivilahtio ok
10:09 well lets try with some "real" librarian
10:09 kf so normally, log in after install witht hat user, create a branch, a staff patron category, a user with that and give him permissions - then use that user from then on
10:09 kivilahtio ok
10:10 will do a user avatar for meself
10:10 kf make sure you give them permissions - superlibrarian normally
10:11 kivilahtio ok
10:20 Ok the superlibrarian fix solved all these issues
10:21 kf cool :)
10:21 kivilahtio I think this too was written in the manual
10:21 rtfm
10:21 kf hehe
10:21 glad it worked
10:21 kivilahtio me too
10:21 kf visibility of baskets will also be controlled by a syspref in 3.6
10:21 got in yesterday
10:21 kivilahtio thats cool
10:21 kf so you can limit which baskets people see, their own, all branch, or system wide
10:22 kivilahtio kf: do you know of any integrations to finance software?
10:22 like to make koha see when the money has rolled on the library account?
10:23 and automate ePayment processes?
10:24 kf sorry no
10:24 kivilahtio ok
10:25 but thanks a gazillion kf
10:25 will look into something else now.

12:23 Schwitzd ok
12:25 ropuch hm
12:25 magnuse hm, there's no simple "just click here" for editing all items related to one record, right? you'd have to get the barcodes or item numbers into a file and use "Batch item modification"?
12:26 ropuch I know
12:27 oleonard magnuse: That's a nice idea for a feature: batch mod all this record's items

14:00 libsysguy yeah pull does the fetch and merge in one whack

14:00 rangi libsysguy: it does, unless you have told pull to do rebase instead

14:24 sekhar hi good morning.
14:24 i am looking for some help regarding fines and circulation rules?
14:24 kf why does this feel like friday? :)
14:24 sekhar any volunteers?
14:25 kf sekhar: ask your questions :)
14:25 someone who knows will answer probably .)
14:25 sekhar thanks.
14:25 we had a koha setup for our private circulation library.
14:26 and we charge customers on monthly basis depending on number of books.
14:26 something like 1/2/3/ books they can subscribe any time, any number of times in a month.
14:26 kf hm
14:27 I would set them up with an expiration time of one month
14:27 sekhar or at any point of time they can have 1/2/3 books with them and can do any number of check in or check outs.
14:27 kf I think that's the only way to do it right now
14:27 and when renewing them, the fine will be put on the account
14:27 sekhar but at the end of the month they have to pay a monthly reading fee.
14:27 kf oh
14:27 on number of books
14:27 ignore what I said.
14:27 rangi yeah, there's not really any way to do that
14:28 sekhar 1. I tried to use Fines and Circulation rules module. It is possible to
14:28 rangi you could fudge it by making a different borrower category for each type
14:28 and make rules for that
14:28 sekhar is there any way to simulate thi s in Koha.
14:29 rangi but the charge you'd have to do with a manual invoice
14:29 sekhar can you please explain.
14:29 rangi koha is not designed to work this way at all, so it would be fudging it
14:30 for each possible type of borrower
14:30 ie ones that are allowed 1 or 2 or 3 books
14:30 you would make a category
14:30 then assign the borrower to that category
14:30 and make circ rules for it
14:30 BUT
14:31 sekhar correct.
14:31 i did like that.
14:31 rangi although there is code in koha to stop a borrower having more than x number out at a time
14:31 sekhar i created each category but with no fines.
14:31 rangi no code exists to limit how many checkouts
14:31 that simply wont work with development
14:31 without
14:32 sekhar now at the end of the month, i have to check offline whether they paid the monthly reading fee or not and then issue books.
14:32 this is becoming tough.
14:32 as you said is there any way to fudge it?
14:32 rangi no
14:32 that is the fudge
14:33 sekhar sorry
14:33 rangi the way to make it work, is to develop code to handle this, and get it into koha
14:33 sekhar i didn't catch what you were trying to say..
14:33 ok :-)
14:33 any workaround?
14:34 hope my requirement is clear to you?
14:34 rangi yes its clear, koha cant do it as it stands the workaround is to do it with manual invoices in koha, it cant automatically do it
14:34 huginn` New commit(s) needsignoff: [Bug 5995] Glitch with checkauth <http://bugs.koha-community.org[…]w_bug.cgi?id=5995>
14:36 sekhar true. is it possible to have automatic recurring invoices for each patron?
14:37 rangi you can do that with the expiration date thin kf suggested
14:37 make each category have a monthly expiry
14:38 libsysguy joined #koha
14:38 sekhar yes. that is what we are doing now. if we have more patrons then it becomes tough.
14:38 libsysguy back
14:39 rangi sekhar: dev work is the real answer
14:39 anything else is just piling mess on top
14:39 kf you have to work what exists in koha - charge fee (will be charged on checkout), patron account management fee (on renewal or creation of account)
14:39 sekhar true.
14:40 it is tough to sell per book fee...monthly fee is more ideal for us...
14:40 as other libraries around also do the same...
14:43 wizzyrea you could delete the borrower every time and charge an account management fee every time you create a patron
14:43 but, possibly lots of unnecessary data entry
14:43 how busy are you?

15:14 it looks like a borrowernumber
15:14 rangi i think stores the id of the librarian who opened the basket
15:14 slef: yeah it was about 48cents to the USD then
15:15 79 now
15:15 libsysguy yeah that is what I thought rangi...but I have an id in there that doesn't exist in the borrowers table
15:15 slef libsysguy: it's probably spelt b u g
15:16 libsysguy NOOOO
15:16 rangi apparently the patriot act made it much harder to launder money using US$ .. which meant a lot more trading in the euro instead, which helped the dive of the USD

15:31 libsysguy a borrowerer got deleted and I got an error of an undef hashref
15:31 yeah cascaded would be a bad idea
15:31 unless we can set up some kind of heirchy
15:31 so when a librarian gets deleted then it goes to their superior
15:31 sekjal hmmm
15:31 libsysguy and eventually to kohaadmin
15:31 rangi to start with
15:32 we should just make the delete check

16:31 wizzyrea so like henry james acevedo III

16:31 you get nothing?
16:31 sekjal I was using Interlibrary Loan libraries as my example

16:32 slef paul_p: not sure I agree with that. Geeks should use friendly systems so it doesn't scare people looking over their shoulder; other users should be allowed to do geekish things if they want to.

22:06 sekjal GetMemberDetails?
22:06 wahanui hmmm... GetMemberDetails is a black hole into which CPU cycles fall; don't ever use it!!!
22:06 sekjal :)
22:07 maximep small stuff that makes a difference to make koha feel faster =)
22:09 sekjal maximep:  I was opac-details.pl on a record with a lot of materials
22:10 many, many seconds wasted on C4::Reserves::CheckReserve
22:10 which was ultimately because of GetMemberDetails
22:10 maximep cool!
22:10 sekjal I'm on a mission to eradicate that subroutine wherever possible
22:11 GetMember will often be more than sufficient
22:11 and it's just a simple SELECT * across a single table; very efficient
